JJ's Kitchen

Serve Breakfast To Those In Need

At St. Pat’s, we want to be a community that strives to love one another. We love because He first loved us! We are fuelled by the love of Jesus to be attentive to the needs of those around us.

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’” - Matthew 25:37-40

JJ's Cafe is named after a homeless man who was killed while crossing the Main St. one early morning almost 10 years ago. JJ used to sleep in the doorway of the St. Vincent de Paul Café. For 10 years, our community has been hosting Christmas Dinners for the less advantaged in our neighbourhood. At our first Annual General Meeting with Fr. Vincent Hawkswell, our community decided to open our doors weekly and serve the needs of our community.

JJ’s Cafe is open from 7-9 AM every Saturday morning. Anyone who comes through our doors is served a hot breakfast and welcomed into a warm and comfortable environment. We uphold and value the dignity of each individual who comes and shares a meal with our team of volunteers. On average, we see about 50-80 people visiting JJ’s cafe on a weekly basis; in fact, many of our frequent visitors have found JJ’s cafe to so conducive to community building that they’ve started to help each other in finding work, housing, or other aids that they may need!

We’re blessed by the love and hard work of our generous parish volunteers as well as volunteers from neighbouring churches. Members of our own community groups like the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Patrick’s  elementary and secondary school,  as well as our students who are going through Parish Religious Education (PREP) classes help ensure that we’re able to serve our community weekly.

We also provide service/volunteer hours to students who need to fulfill requirements in order to complete a course. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Minette.
