How It Began
The All Were Filled Project began because a generous Catholic man reflected on the fact that there is a new demographic of people that has developed during the Covid-19 pandemic that would usually not be in need, who now find themselves in difficult financial situations. They have lost their jobs or have greatly reduced hours to the point that they are struggling to make ends meet. They are going into debt by putting everyday expenses on their credit cards or using their savings for regular expenses. These people often are very uncomfortable asking for help, but their need is growing, and they may even be to the point of not knowing how they will put food on the table for their families. We have found that it often takes several invitations and encouragement to talk them into accepting help. We have also found that the most effective way to help these people accept the help offered by the All Were Filled Project is through personal relationships- those who know of their situations. What better way than through a Catholic parish community might these people be identified, reached and encouraged to get help?
What is Offered
The food that is offered is a box of pre-cooked frozen soups or entrees. The food comes frozen, in boxes of six 2-kilogram bags, such as Fried Rice, Harvest Mushroom Soup, Vegetarian Chile, Curry Chicken, French Onion Soup, Clam Chowder, Chile con Carne, Beef and Barley Soup, Chicken Chow Mein, etc. The dishes can be served as an entrée on their own, or served over rice, pasta or potatoes. See link to Global Gourmet Foods for information on the foods they manufacture. Each 2-kilogram bag has seven servings of food, and there are six bags in each box. A large family might need to order more than one box, but that is no problem at all. There is no cost to the parish or to the recipients. All expenses are paid by the Archbishop’s Response Fund, which is funded by Project Advance Donors. The RCAV has also acquired a grant through the Government of Canada, which is administered by United Way, Lower Mainland.
