Altar Servers

Are you interested in serving the Lord in the liturgy?

At St. Patrick’s Parish, altar servers are given the privilege of assisting the priest in a reverent and respectful manner during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Young people who are grade 4 and above and demonstrate the necessary level of commitment are eligible to serve*. Pope Francis says of this privilege that “the closer you are to the altar, the more you will remember to speak with Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be nourished by the word and the body of the Lord, the better able you will be to go out to others, bringing them the gift that you have received, giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have received”[1].

The duties of altar servers include preliminary preparation for Mass, assisting during Mass and closure (cleaning) after Mass. Servers are required for all Sunday and weekday Masses at St. Patrick’s. There are also other opportunities for altar servers to assist the priest during weddings, funerals, Benediction and other devotions.

If you would like to draw closer to Jesus in the liturgy by becoming an altar server at St. Patrick’s*, please contact Mary Grace Aranda to schedule training. Help your parish while learning why we do what we do in the liturgy and what it means.

*Servers are ultimately selected and trained by the pastor.
